Thank you for the pain…thank you for the fear…thank you for helping me figure out what I hold dear! On this special day (my birthday), I wanted to write a message that I hope really resonates with at least a few people. I have realized that without really exercising gratitude on a regular basis we will never really know what we have…till it is gone. It takes great courage to share some inner thoughts with all of you but I want you know to experience the grace that I have learned to know.
As a well-balanced, happy and secure person, I traveled through this life in a comfortable and complacent role. I have been fortunate to seldom experience anything really negative. I remember in graduate school when I would role play with my partner she exclaimed, “Wow, how did you get this far in life without having anything really negative happen to you”…She had experienced her share of tragedy with the death of significant people and other poignant events…yet, I had nothing to “draw from” during our counseling role plays. I wanted to really, really identify…but yet I couldn’t.
Just like the changing of the seasons, I suppose my life has changed. Some tragic events have since occurred and now I can sincerely identify with some of the more negative aspects of life. Those of you who know me well can imagine what some of those events might be but that is not really the point of this blog. My point is that by adjusting my daily habits and thoughts, I have been able to handle some terrific challenges! I have learned that incorporating a regular routine of daily prayer, meditation, physical exercise and an “attitude of gratitude” helps you handle the big challenges in life!
My new mantra is to live a life with an “attitude of gratitude”. Yes, it rhymes…I am known for making up rhymes and telling stories. It’s a great way to keep things simple so you can incorporate it into a daily routine. You see, when you practice an “attitude of gratitude” you are enriching your own life and existence! When you awake each morning and start with a positive and thankful attitude it sets the tone for the entire day! People that interact with you on a regular basis will see a difference…and more importantly, they will feel that difference! What we “project” to the world returns back to us!
Even if I reach one soul who has yet to realize the true value of a daily “attitude of gratitude” then this blog is worth it. We learn the most through our challenges in life. By helping others navigate life, we enrich our own lives. Isn’t that what our journey is really all about?
So, thank you for the pain…thank you for the fear…thank you for helping me figure out what I hold dear! Enjoy the gift of this beautiful day and every day! Namaste!
