Throughout your life you will meet a variety of people who are each in your life for different reasons. However, in the process you find a handful of people who become “your” people. I refer to them as “your tribe”. They become your “forever” counselor, your "forever" teacher…your "forever" mentor. Typically, most of us only have about a ½ dozen really intimate connections. The real heart and soul connections, like the one I have with my forever partner, Dr. Vivian Carrasco. A “forever” person listen to you, supports you, strengthens you, inspires you and overall just helps make you better!
Just like in job hunting when we tell clients to develop a network you should also have a spiritual “Board of Directors”. Try to take it to the next level…follow your instinct. Identify and connect with people who nurture your soul. A mentor guides but does not direct you. A good mentor is always there for you. You have selelcted one another.
Now, think beyond the obvious and recall a student or younger person that you might have had a strong connection with over time. If you’ve been mentored then you should mentor somebody else in return. I think you will be surprised that what comes around, goes around! Similar to the “pay it forward” principle the more you help others the more the universe helps you. We are on this earth to love and help one another!
If you are reading this and have no idea what I’m talking about then you probably need a mentor. The world of work can be very ominous and overwhelming. Having somebody to bounce ideas off of and confide in helps you to be more successful and balanced. At the very minimum, more supported.
So, who is your forever tribe? You will find and collect them as you journey through life. I have several former military folks in my group, lots of educators, numerous counselors and some really special friends. I hope you find your forever tribe!
